Capital Punishment

Given the recent execution of the convicted D.C. Sniper, the role of forensic scientists have never been more important. Over 90% of the people RELEASED from Death Row were done so using DNA technology and through the work of the Innocence Project.
A.) How do you feel about the implement of capital punishment?
B.) What aspect of forensic science impacts your feelings?

  1. A. I think its good and bad...its good cuz they got the person that committed it but its bad that some of them didnt even commit the crime but yet they get sentenced to death anyway
    B. DNA evidence

  2. A) i believe that capital punishment is good in some aspects but bad in others. for example lets say and innocent man was convicted and sentenced to death? if he's innocent shouldn't they give more time to prove his innocence?
    B) lack of DNA evidence for all they know it could be circumstantial

  3. I think that Death should only be sentenced to people who commit acts terrorism against the united states. But they got to make sure it was that person that committed it. By using DNA analyses that is possible.

  4. i think capital punishment should be used wisely and that if someone is sentenced to it that they actually committed the crime. its not right to kill an innocent man or woman for the crime that someone else committed.
    B. any evidence collected

  5. A) I believe capital punishment is a good thing because it helps weed out the worst criminal dregs of society. But I think it should only used when they are absolutely sure that the person committed the crime.
    B) DNA evidence is a major part of determining whether or not the person did it.

  7. A. i think they should give it plenty of time so they can sure they are executing the right person. Its a good punishment but not if innocent people are being killed for no reason.
    B. DNA evidence

  8. i thank that if you do something outrageous like a massacre and kill a lot of innocent people and are plotting to kill more no matter what the consequence will be then yes. but on the other hand i don't believe in it because the person could be innocent. there was a guy that was getting death by gas and his lawyer wanted another appeal and they did and the man was found innocent but it was too late just as the call was made to free the man the doctor had pushed the button and it was too late they could not get him out so they prosecuted an innocent man. the DNA evidence if it was me i would want to make sure that this person was the right person and not someone else and the real person is still free.

  9. A. I feel that capitol punishment is a great thing, you knew the consequences of your actions when you did it. I feel if enough people see enough people die eventually it will sink in that maybe crime isn't the answer. As for the teen sniper i feel he should be sentenced to the same punishment that the older one faces cause he was aware of what was going on he was not oblivious to anything.

    B. Nothing of forensics science impacts my decision on this case, i feel this is strictly knowing what your consequences are whe you commit the crime.

  10. A.) I think it's a good idea, if strong evidence can be presented and the person is almost 100% guilty. If the Evidence lacks some details or has any concerns than they should wait until strong enough evidence can be obtained. Many innocent people die because of shady evidence and wrongful convictions. I think there should be a certain time limit to the death penalty so that someone doesn't have to wait too long or so someone can be proven guilty 100%.
B.)The advancement of DNA testing. Shows how far technology has come and can easily prove someone guilty or innocent.

  11. A.) I think it's bad... Its horrible to think that an innocent person can be sentenced and put to death while we have the DNA evidence to prove them innocent... I think its to sketchy and there is to much potential for human error while dealing with evidence.
B.) The fact that DNA evidence it is easily contaminated

  12. A. people get what they deserve, if you've killed one you should be put to death, think that should not only go for "adults" (18 or over), but for kids as well. no one should ever get away with killing someone. THE END

    B. DNA

  13. A. I think that we should not use capital punishment. Anyone who is living has to have a conscience and if they do then they should have to be forced to live with it. Capital punishment is to me a sort of freedom if you have killed somebody. Being able to let go of what you did and being free of your conscience and anything you would have to face in prison. Having to wake up in a prison and live that life everyday would be worse than getting away without a punishment. To me i think nobody should get capital punishment. The worst punishment ever is having to live with a bad conscience knowing you killed people. Also living in a small room and doing the exact same day everyday.
    B. I think the aspect of forensic science that impacts my feelings are how they can use DNA evidence and go back and can convict or prove people innocent. Everyday they use the DNA database to prove innocent or guilty. They even use it for maternity testing. All the different ways to test for DNA is surprising. For somebody to die from capital punishment they should have DNA linking the person to the crime.

  14. A) i think capitol punishment is a good because people get what they deserve. i think that death should be postponed so the person has time to prove his/her innocence.

    B) collected evidence

  15. A.) I believe that capital punishment has its pros and cons. I believe that killing is wrong! But if theres a killer in death row thats just to dangerous and just too much of a threat to keep alive, then yes the death penalty should be used. But if theres a killer thats calmed down and understand what he/she did was wrong and isnt in any way a threat to anyones safety then he/she shouldn't be sentenced to death so that he/she can spend the rest of his/her life reflecting on what they did, and pray to God for forgiveness.
    b.) DNA evidence

  16. A) I think capitol punishment is okay in some cases, but not okay in others...Like terrorism...if someone catches a terrorist, i believe they should not be killed, thats what they want. They want to make themselves a martyr...but say someone killed a bunch of people, heck yes they deserve to die...they killed numerous people, broke numerous families..

    B) the type of crime, evidence against them...if you find their DNA, i'm fairly certain that they did it...unless they had a valid reason to be in the place that the murder happened.

  17. A.I feel that the implement of capital punishment is needed. If we didn't have it than there would be more and more crimes that will be committed because the criminals that commit capital offenses don't fear jail.

    B. well the aspect that appeals to my feelings is the question;" What possesses people to murder"? The crime scenes are okay for me i can handle that, but just wondering why he or she does it. And most of them have no remorse for what they have done. That is just wrong and it really disturbs me.

  18. A. i think it is a good thing cause they shouldn't have done what they did to get on death row in the first place and if they really didn't do it they shouldnt have been there to start with
    B. Physical Evidence and confessions

  19. a.) I think that this is a good thing. people know what will happen if they do commit a capital crime. No, this will not stop people from committing capital crimes. But if they they keep them on death row for along time then it makes you think about a lot of things. then they kill you. B.) DNA technology

  20. This is the Zodiac speaking,
    A.)
Even i feel that murders should be punished by death. Not instantly but maybe after a few years in prison. Make them wait and think about what they have done. And also to give them time to prove they are innocent.
    B.)
I think Forensics has came along way since way back when but i do beleive there is still not a way to be 100% sure if someone is innocent or guilty.

    P.S.
This isn't really the Zodiac so dont freak out. this is the kid that sleeps alot. if you can figure out this jumble of letters at the bottom you will have found your Blogger

  21. A. I believe capital punishment is a good way to get rid of criminals once and for all. I feel as if murderers should be sentenced to death row if they actually committed the crime and was convicted. Waiting on death row really makes people think for their actions. I also believe the death penalty has its negative effects too. This is not much of an issue anymore but back before dna evidence was used many people were convicted for crimes they may not have committed and were still sentenced to death.

    B. The aspect of forensic science that impacts me the most would be the actual crime scene. I like the fact that being a crime scene investigator you use the evidence given at the crime scene to figure out what really went on. Crime scenes just interest me because i like to solve problems.

  22. A. i think that capital punishment is very good because when someone gets murdered they should be punished to the fullest exctint.

    B. DNA evindence because it is so accurate.
